How do I get all this SH@$ done?
Why do I feel so rushed?
What’s this all about???
Why am I not doing the things that I consider important, those items that fill my cup and bring me joy?
A. Does time run my life? or
B. Do I create a structure to support my life?
Step 1. Define what your schedule looks like-Figure out an approximate schedule for your day.
Are you 9-5/ 10-4… 4 or 5 days a week kind of person? Commit to it!
Step 2. Make a list of all your activities. Include all activities ( fitness/work/family/ wellness/etc.) Have fun with your various activities and assign colours and creative descriptions to your activities. For example; "nutritious dinner with family"
Step 3. Prioritize your activities. Where do they go in your calendar? Check that you have selected the right time of day for the corresponding activity. For example, if you are a morning person and focus better, assign those activities the most amount of brain power in the morning. Build in time between appointments so you can travel, breathe, bio break or eat.
Step 4. Share it with Others. Make sure your work and family are included where applicable. This reduces the potential for double booking.
Step 5. Learn to say NO. Use your calendar as a reference when others ask you to do things that haven’t been factored into your schedule. Responses such as; "let me see if that works, or "I'll check my availability". This approach will lessen your experience of having to say "no" and the corresponding feeling of "letting people down". You will establish a new language model that comes from a place of "workability" and "availability".
Step 6. Celebrate and acknowledge your new structure that supports YOUR LIFE!!
Bonus- set a timer for 30 minutes when you start a new activity, challenge yourself to focus intensely during those 30 minutes to complete things more efficiently... have fun!!! A mindset based on playfulness will contribute immensely to your effectiveness.
